  • Consulting on waste reduction

We effectively support businesses in optimizing their production processes to reduce the amount of waste generated. Our actions follow a multi-stage approach, which includes:

  1. Mapping of production processes related to waste generation.
  2. Identifying the potential for waste reduction.
  3. Establishing new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  4. Installing a waste weighing system in areas with the highest reduction potential.
  5. Setting goals.
  6. Fostering a waste management culture among the workforce.
  7. Monitoring the implementation of new solutions.
  8. Reporting and analyzing deviations from the set goals.

The mapping of production processes regarding waste generation follows an established pattern whose subsequent steps include:

  • Utilizing the current weighing system provided by Feniks.
  • Ceasing weighing of waste other than the one with the highest potential.
  • Adhering to the principle that if waste is not described, it should not be weighed until adequately documented.
  • Increasing the number of containers on the company’s premises.
  • Categorizing waste into more detailed subcategories.
  • Enhancing the level of detail in reports, expanding smaller subareas.

The process of determining the potential for waste reduction is complex. A proven analytical method involves the following steps:

  • Structuring the waste generated in the factory according to the Pareto principle.
  • Converting the cost of waste generation into monetary values (costs related to material losses, disposal, process handling, etc.).
  • Identifying areas with the highest potential in terms of waste volume or cost.

Choosing one of these factors (volume or cost of waste) forms the basis for formulating a new KPI – determining indicators for the areas defined in the Feniks weighing sheet: cost-based (PLN/volume) or weight-based (kg/volume).
Our optimization procedure also includes the installation of a weighing system. In this case, we follow the following guidelines:

  • Installing the system only in areas with the highest potential.
  • Weighing only the waste with the most promising results.
  • Determining the number of scales required in a given facility (one scale may serve multiple areas).
  • Establishing the frequency of weighing (per order/change/day).
  • Weighing incomplete bins.
  • Monitoring the weighing process by comparing the weighing to the Feniks’ weighing report.

The final stage of our process combines setting goals, monitoring the results, and reporting deviations from the established objectives. Our experts’ tasks include:

  • Setting ambitious goals along with determining the cost potential of their achievement.
  • Organizing regular meetings or utilizing existing meeting schedules to review the functioning of specific units within the company.
  • Choosing a method for reporting deviations (requirements for Root Cause Analysis, a database of divergences and their causes, or other methods).

Building waste awareness
among the company’s employees is critical to the systemic measures, as the results depend on their commitment. We achieve this by organizing the following:

  • Waste-related results visualization.
  • Thematic competitions.
  • Training sessions for the workforce addressing environmental protection, waste generation, recycling, and other related topics.
